Montgomery Police Department k-9 Unit
The ever changing atmosphere and mode of operation of criminal elements within the City of Montgomery demonstrated the need for a single purpose narcotics canine team. The Department has seen an increase in narcotic arrests and drug related crimes over the past several years. The K-9 Unit is a proactive component that joins specific efforts to fight drugs in the community.
The City of Montgomery Police Department has maintained an active canine program since 2007. The first canine in the Department is dual-purpose, Kilo. He is used for patrol work and narcotics detection. The Police Department first took possession of Kilo in 2007 with Chief Hudgens as his handler. Officer Michael Bellard was then promoted as Kilo's handler and partner in 2009. Officer Bellard and Kilo make up the K-9 Unit for the City of Montgomery.
