Welcome to Historic Montgomery!
Come spend a day with us in the third oldest city in Texas. Our city charter goes
back to 1857. We are proud to be the birthplace of the world famous Texas flag. Montgomery resident,
Dr. Charles Stewart, a Texas statesman, designed the flag and state seal.
We are a "walking" city where you can stroll leisurely from historic
home to historic home or shop to your heart’s content. Stop in first at our museum, the Davis Cottage,
and pick up a city tour guide and brochure showing our historical sites, antique stores, gift shops, and
restaurants. Some of our fine old homes date back to the 1850’s. Our “new cemetery” goes back to 1868.
We especially invite you to visit us for two special events. In April our historic
homes and buildings are open for the Montgomery Trek. Then visit our shops and the wide variety of arts
and crafts exhibits and vendors that come for the big event. In December we have
Christmas in Historic
Montgomery that features the Historic Home Tour and our Famous Cookie Walk. Load up on home baked goodies
during this unique event.
We are still a small, friendly town, population 498, extending one mile each
direction from city center. We are 15 miles west of Conroe and about 40 miles north of Houston, with
easy access on State Highway 105 and FM 149. Our area is experiencing rapid growth. We are expecting
to double our population with in the next two or three years, but we are working hard to keep our small
town, historic flavor. The growth has been thoughtfully planned by the caring developers, in concert with
the city planners, and will contribute to Montgomery’s expansion in an orderly way that will benefit our
residents, our businesses, and our guests.
